Melanie King has recently developed an installation visualising pulsar audio interpretations as part of the LCN programme at Space Studios. Melanie presented this project, and demonstrate how the installation works.
The Pulsar audio interpretations obtained from Steve Aishman, who studied at Princeton's Astrophysics department, and worked with ALFA Pulsar studies. Steve Aishman is an artist, and presented data representation techniques using free-source NASA data.
Melanie King and Steve Aishman are currently studying towards the MPhil/PhD in Fine Art at the Royal College of Art.
Melanie King, Louise Beer and Rebecca Huxley are directors of Lumen Studios, an art collective dedicated to astronomy and light. Lumen presented a number of recent activities, including a "Print the Moon" event at Netil 360, two recent astronomy-themed residencies in Italy and an upcoming show at Ugly Duck in February 2017.
This event raised an informal discussion about how invisible/distant celestial objects are imaged and aestheticised.
